Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays Peaceful Warriors!

By Master Art Mason | News

On behalf of Masters Curt, Scott and myself I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas from Sudbury Ontario and Brasov Romania.

This picture is from the Christmas Market at Piata Sfatului which is about 8 minutes walk from our home. This is a very special time of year in Brasov as it is in the rest of Romania and many other countries across the world.

Being Peaceful Warriors we value peace above all things. In these next days rather then paying attention to the media or other things that cause you distress and anger take a good look at all the things you have in your life to be thankful for!

Enjoy your time at home with family and friends and if you go out please be safe!

For anyone interested I am enclosing a video also of Brasov, and why we call it the Best City in the World.

Congratulations Master Riccardo Pappini

By Master Art Mason | News

Master Riccardo Pappini

Grading for high ranking Black Belts are not conducted at a normal Black Belt Extravaganza. The process of rank above 4th Dan Black Belt is a complicated matter. Very few people get to these levels.

There are 3 stages of mastery in a martial art. They are as follows:

  1. Physical Master 4th Dan Black Belt
  2. Mental / Mind Master of the art 6h Dan Black belt
  3. Mind / Body /Spirit – Grand Master 7th Dan Black Belt

Often times people will make it to 4th Dan, but few continue on with the training to reach the high levels. At the upper level there is much self discovery, and also discover of how to truly share the teachings with others.

So with this said it is my great honour and privilege to announce the official promotion of Master Riccardo Pappini to the honoured rank of 6th Dan (degree) Black belt in the art of Hon Sang Mu Sa Hapkido as of December 8th 2016. Along with this goes the title of Kwan Jung Nim (Director / Professor / Senior Teacher).

The proper certificate will be issued and presented at a later date as rank of this extent requires the signature of myself, Master Curt and Master Scott.

Yours in the arts,

Grand Master Art Mason

Kyusho Jitsu Black Belt Grading at Peaceful Warriors’ Martial Arts

By Master Art Mason | News

Kyusho Graders Rob Wipe, Ivor Chandler, Nicole Sussens

Kyusho Graders Rob Wipe, Ivor Chandler,  Nicole Sussens

Yesterday Saturday December 3rd 2016 we held our Kyusho Jitsu Black Belt Grading at Art Mason’s Peaceful Warriors’ Martial Art Institute on Tecumseh Road East in Windsor.

The grading was presided over by Master Riccardo Pappini and Master Louise St Jacques. I watched via Skype session. There were 3 graders, Nicole Sussens for 1st Dan, Rob Wiper and Ivor Chandler for 2nd Dan Black Belt.

15310426_10211674361084332_1214077372_n For Nicole there was 2 parts to the exam. The first part is a written exam consisting of multiple choice, question and answer as well as a essay style portion. The time allowed to complete the exam is 90 minutes. This is followed by a practical, physical exam which also has a 90 minute time limit on it. But rarely takes that long with a single person grading for the rank.

The 2nd Dan grading is a straight 90 minute physical exam.

A grade point average on all tests is a minimum of 80% to pass.

Congratulation to the graders on an excellent performance at testing!

Kyusho Jitsu is a very important addition to any martial art style. At Art Mason’s Peaceful Warriors Martial Arts we treat it as a separate certification course, as well as integrating into our art. This January another session for beginning will be starting. Please see Master Rick for more information.

History of the Peaceful Warriors’ Part 11 – Kyusho Jitsu

By Master Art Mason | News

With GM Steve Stewart

With GM Steve Stewart

I had quite an interest in Pressure Points and had heard much about them over the years. I was also very familiar with the name George Dillman. But I really did not know much other then a few things I had seen in Black Belt magazine or online.

At some point in 2002 I believe it was I saw online that George Dillman was going to be at Steve Stewart’s Modern Martial Arts in London Ontario. I contacted Master Steve to get information and a group of us traveled to London to participate in the seminar.

GM Dillman covered a very basic part of beginners Kyusho Jitsu, talked about it history and some Kyusho Black Belts did an amazing demonstration. I was hooked!

I contacted Master Steve on the following Monday to inquire how I could learn more. He was just setting up his first real study group and gave me the details if I wanted to join.

And I did!

The following year I graded for my 1st Dan in Kyusho, but was promoted to 2nd Dan. After which I joined the advanced program, and Master Curt joined the Novice Group. From there, things just grew and grew until it became an essential part of being a Peaceful Warrior.

In 2004 I began to do study groups in Windsor and continued to do my own personal learning. Kyusho became a calling for me. I became certified as a Level 5 Instructor, which is the highest level of instructor in the Kyusho International Alliance, a part of Dillman Karate International.

We have a dozen or so Black Belts in the Kyusho Jitsu KIA system at our school including 3 masters beside myself. There is Master Rick Pappini and Master Louise St Jacques, plus of course Master Curt Mason.

Tomorrow in Windsor we will be conducting a Kyusho Exam under the new organization I have created called the Kyusho Jitsu World Alliance. I am still a member of GM Stewart’s organization and am proud to call myself a student of his in this art.

But being a Peaceful Warrior I have always done my own thing too….

Here is a video from 2009 Master Curt Mason 4th Dan Black Belt Kyusho Jitsu Grading.

More to come…
