Tenets of the Peaceful Warriors’ Part 3 – Self Control

Self Control Poster Wikipedia defines Self Control as follows –

Self-control is the ability to control one’s emotions, behavior, and desires in the face of external demands in order to function in society.[1] In psychology it is sometimes called self-regulation. Self-control is essential in behavior to achieve goals and to avoid impulses and/or emotions that could prove to be negative.[2]

Our world lacks self control, we see it every day in society. Everything from road rage, over eating, bullying, the way our politician behave, we see it in all aspects of life. We increase our tolerance for bad situations. For the martial art student this is unacceptable.

Self Control is needed by all people but especially those who are students of any martial art. Without self control what is there to stop the student from committing a violent act because someone cuts in line on them, or other unwarranted reasons?  Self Control must be practiced by all!
