Are you open to learning?

walls A few days ago I wrote an essay on Ego, now I want to ask the question, are you open to learning? When you see a new idea, or theory in a martial art, do you think of if it fits your learning or do you see red?

One of the sad things about martial artists is that they are often not open to new theories and ideas of training and development in the arts. Do you look at the concept or idea and see if it is a fit, or do you just dismiss it, or redicule it?

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with some great, world class martial artists. Some of what they taught or practiced I love and impliment into my system. Other things I dismissed with the understanding that because they don’t work for me does not mean that they don’t work.

Most of the people who will read these musings are open minded people looking to learn new things. Some will be under experienced and very resistive to these ideas. Resistence causes the brain to slow, and stress to develop in the body and body systems.

Rather than being resistive simply dismiss what does not work for you. You will then attract things that do work and enjoy the martial art experience more.
